Odin and Sleipnir

Looking through some old sketchbooks the other day, I was reminded that my work was never quite as bad as I tend to remember it being. I thought this, at least, deserved to be seen. I think it's about three years old, so excuse the dodgy bits.

It is of course Odin on his trusty eight-legged steed Sleipnir. I worked very hard to avoid the old 'stick some extra legs on a drawing of a horse' method, and actually thought very hard about where the extra legs would need to be in relation to each other so that the horse could actually practically and realistically use them. In the end it involved making his body bigger and longer than a normal horse's to accomadate the extra muscles and shoulder bones. All a bit of a nightmare at the time, but it looks okay.

Pity Odin himself looks about as intimidating as a soggy piece of bread. Still, I reckon this could form the basis of a pretty darn good full-colour Photoshop pic one day...
